An Ordeal in October - An Unexpected Painful Interlude

After my Blog published on October 5, 2011, my blogging affairs encountered an unwanted period of incapacity when my excretory functions had gone completely haywired.  Though I've already accepted that with advancing years, my physical constitution would be susceptible to various ailments, this particular excretory malfunction was unprecedented and so unlike the mild stroke that befell me in 1997. Then I managed to recover from said mild stroke within a short period of time causing negligible adverse effects.  On the other hand, this particular episode, highly excruciating as it was, revealed a shocking reminder of my imminent mortality which demands immediate medical attention to obviate possible debilitating effects.

Convinced that several days of sleep-deprived bouts with severely errant excretory malfunction required emergency medical care, some laboratory tests were performed on my corporeal specimens which the attending doctor carefully analyzed and gave his prognosis as well as recommended medication.  All along, I had assumed  that only my excretory functions would be defined as the exclusive source of the incapacitating pain that forced me to seek the solace of my bed for some two weeks.  When the doctor declared that I was diabetic as well, disbelief somewhat invaded my mind with a tinge of apprehension.  Various drugs were prescribed for me to take daily with the instruction to undergo further laboratory tests ten days thereafter.  As some of the prescribed drugs were quite expensive, I limited purchasing only for a week supply as our family budget would be adversely affected.  Still, the cost of the laboratory tests, doctor's professional fee and medicines amounted to a cool three thousand pesos which more expenses to come in days ahead.

With the aid of medicines I faithfully took daily, a marked improvement occurred since the unbearable pain during my frequent excretory activities had considerably decreased, much to my relief.  Nevertheless, deep inside me, worry enveloped my whole being as I learned that more than a month past, a paternal cousin had died due to diabetes causing his legs amputated previously.  Fortunately, my wife had taken the initiative of showing my laboratory test results to her cousin, who's a specialist in diabetes.  Her cousin-doctor told my wife that some laboratory tests be conducted on my blood samples in another medical facility he recommended.  When the test results were shown to him, a great sense of relief dawned on me when he told me that I was still at a pre-diabetic stage.  He prescribed some medicines which I should take for two months while I should avoid sweets in my food consumption.

Now, I am now on the way to recovery from an almost one month battle with the excruciating excretory malfunction while strict monitoring of my diet must be maintained so as to cure my pre-diabetic illness.  Of course, I have to acknowledge the Divine Providence's intercession and blessing which mitigated my sufferings from my illness.  Indeed, it's really an unforgettable and unprecedented October ordeal which I hope and pray not to repeat its presence in my life.
