Another Sojourn to Typhoon ONDOY 2nd Anniversary Recollection

The recollection of Typhoon ONDOY 2nd Anniversary Recollection took several unintended twists that another sojourn is a must to this Blogger. My personal experience during that typhoon has scarred my psyche so immensely that only God knows when said episode will cease to haunt me. Indeed, it's a miracle that my wife and I survived since as non-swimmers, we could not possibly cross safely the raging 20 feet depth flood waters. Of course, God works in so many mysterious ways to cause my kind neighbors play the Good Samaritans and guide us to safety.

While ONDOY'S 1st Anniversary was largely uneventful, the 2nd anniversary would be worrisome as manifested initially by Typhoon FALCON. The improved state of preparedness

of the Marikina City Government which was inexistent in ONDOY's time did assuage the people's apprehension on FALCON's imminence. Still, many of us, ONDOY's survivors of Provident Villages could not avoid wariness of FALCON's possible ill effects.

Expectation that ONDOY's 2nd Anniversary would be somewhat peaceful was badly shattered as Typhoon PEDRING wrought havoc on Northern Philippines and Manila while sparing largely Marikina City. Even QUIEL, which was predicted to be more powerful than PEDRING, chose to fix its destructive attention likewise on Northern Philippines. Though, we were virtually unscathed by PEDRING and QUIEL, other areas in Central Luzon eventually bore the widespread flooding due to heavy rains induced by the two typhoons.

Many towns of Pampanga, Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan and Tarlac were severely inundated causing tremendous destruction to agriculture and infrastructures as well as displacing thousands of the residents. It's extremely saddening to know from extensive coverage of tri-media the intense hunger and discomfort suffered by those people affected by the widespread flooding which would likely take many days to subside according to news reports.

Despite such numerous depressing reports, the internationally acclaimed Filipino trait of "BAYANIHAN" or selfless spirit of volunteerism once again has proved to be a priceless jewel that we, Filipinos, should be proud of at all times. We hope that even in the midst of adversities, our country will stand tall and proud once again like the Phoenix rising from the ashes.
